Tracing the transformation of the Binckhorst, Den Haag.

The Counter-Archive Binckhorst is an independent research project about the fast redevelopment of the Binckhorst industrial area in The Hague. Carried out roughly between January and May 2026, it runs alongside the official record and tries to capture what official planning documents leave out.

A quiet record of disappearance.

When a sloopmelding (demolition notification) is filed, a window of roughly four weeks opens before the structure can lawfully be removed. This project uses that brief period to document, photograph and archive the material history of the area.

This is not an official government archive, and not a live register. It is a research project carried out as part of my studies at the KABK, asking which histories are kept and which are wiped away during big urban changes. All dates, figures and data points come from what we saw on the ground and from news and public documents; treat them as rough, not as legal sources.
